Task Tracker Documentation Introduction to Task Tracker Task Tracker allows you to keep track of your task list quickly and easily. It has been designed to be quick and simple to use and tries to avoid getting bogged down with complexity. Task Tracker is based on the scheduling approach described by Joel Spolsky on his popular site Joel On Software. You can read the article here. ![]() The main view of Task Tracker contains a list of all your tasks. This view is split into several columns that display information about your tasks. The sizes of each of these columns can be adjusted by dragging the vertical lines in the headings at the top of the main view. It is possible to change the font style and size used in this view from the options dialog. Tasks that are part of the same project can be grouped together using special Group Tasks. You can even have Group Tasks with other groups in them. Groups can be opened and closed, just like folders in Explorer. Each of the Group Tasks in Task Tracker holds a summary of the information from all the tasks it contains. The Original Estimate records the time you originally thought the task would take when it was first created. As you work though your task list, this remains unchanged so you can easily see how accurate your initial estimates are, helping you improve your scheduling skills. The Current Estimate shows how long you currently think the task is going to take, while the Elapsed time show how many hours of work you have put into each task so far. Remain shows the number of hours of work still to be done. All these values, the task's title and its notes can all be edited in the Task Properties dialog by double clicking on a task, or pressing Return when a task is selected. More information on entering time values in Task Tracker can be found here. To get started, see the step by step examples on adding a new task and adding a new group task to your schedule. |
